Top 5 Ways Bloggers Make Money

This is a guest post by Jon

Not everyone who blogs makes money. It takes a lot of hard work and patience to be pulling down those 6 digit figures every year just by blogging. You need to have a steady flow of targeted traffic and a loyal subscriber base that loves to read your latest posts. I could list 100 ways to make money with your blog, but here is a list of the top 5 ways that most bloggers use to make their incomes. You can use one of all of them on your blog, but remember to keep the focus on creating quality content and not just on making an extra buck.

Landing Pages for WordPress

1. Contextual ad networks. This is probably the most common way that bloggers make money. It includes advertising networks like Adsense, Chitika, Bidvertiser, and Adbrite. Adsense is the most used network because it most cases it offers the highest payouts per click. But there are limitations with it and many find that using Chitika can be more effective. Basically, you get paid every time someone clicks on one of the ads. You should never click your own ads or encourage other people to do so. Make sure you read the fine print when you sign up to make sure you are not doing anything against the terms of service on these networks as well.

2.Pay per click in text advertising. The two most popular of these are Kontera and Infolinks.  There are some other in text advertising networks but many of them require your website to be getting hundreds of thousands of unique visitors every month.  So for the average blogger Infolinks and Kontera will be the way to go.  All you need to do is paste some code into your site and the links will automatically appear on your posts.  These networks are giving higher payouts all the time and they often have a higher click through rate too.

3. Affiliate networks. The list of affiliate networks could go on and on. It seems like a new affiliate network is being added every minute. So if you are not already using affiliate marketing just sign up with some of the main ones. I recommend Commission Junction, Clickbank, ShareaSale, and Ebay Partner Network if you can get in. You should already have an established site before trying to sign up with one of these sites. Try to find a product or service that fits your blog and simply enter the affiliate link that has been provided. When someone clicks the link and buys the product you are promoting within a certain time frame you will receive a commission on the sale.

4. Selling ad placements. This is one of the most overlooked ways to make money from your blog, but it can be the most effective way of earning passive income. Have you ever seen blogs with blank spaces that said “Advertise Here”? You can do the same thing on your blog and charge anywhere from $10 to $1000 a month for someone to show their ad on your blog. Obviously, the more traffic your site gets the more you can charge for these ad placements. A good place to start would be Buysellads.com, but there are many other programs out there as well.

5. CPA networks. This works kind of like affiliate networks, but instead of getting paid for generating a sale, you get paid for generating a lead. Companies are willing to pay for a quality lead that is interested in their products or services. This can be much easier than generating a sale, but the payout is usually less. There are many different offers for users to fill out. If someone has to fill in their credit card information the payout will be higher, and if they just need to enter their email address and name the payout will be much less. Some of the CPA networks I recommend are Peerfly, Azoogle, Neverblueads, and Hydra Network.

  1. Hello

My name is David, I am a Community Manager at Kontera.

I wanted to say this is an informative post with good suggestions.

I ‘d be happy to share a little bit more information about our company.

Kontera is the exclusive in-content analysis and engagement platform for more than 15,000 web publishers, reaching over 140 million unique users per month.

Kontera is effective for so many different people is thanks to our Synapse platform, an algorithm that rather than just scanning for keywords like other in-content companies do, can read your text for actual meaning. This added understanding allows us deliver relevant information and ads directly related to user intent, leading to higher CTR and better CPC.

Another advantage of Kontera is our exclusive ad inventory from some of the biggest brand names in the world including Toyota, UPS, Verizon, American Express, General Mills, Dell, L’Oreal, Microsoft Office, Yoplait, and many more. These premium, often Rich-Media ads are the most attractive to users, offer the best possible CPC, and are only available to Kontera Publishers.

Kontera is currently offering new publishers a 70% revenue share and a $50 Bonus if you get at least 25,000 U.S. page views during your first 30 days on the network. Kontera also offers a low $50 minimum threshold, good across all of our payout methods.

    Thanks

  3. A really useful post, everyone knows about Adsense, and newcomers to internet marketing tend to get blinkered into thinking that’s all there is out there, nice to see others commenting and making their products known too. I am going to take a look at infolinks now!
